Life’s a beach in Biarritz which is known for its Basque gastronomy and sporty lifestyle. Biarritz’s Large Beach has been Europe’s surfing Mecca for 50 years, while there are ten golf courses dotted within a 30km radius around the resort.
Thalassotherapy (sea-water therapies using seaweed, mud and warm water) is equally big in Biarritz, Things change slowly in Biarritz where the hydrangeas and tamarisks bloom and the living is easy.where several centres harness nature’s healing powers to pamper and rejuvenate tired minds and bodies. The sea has always formed the backbone of the economy here and until the mid-17th century, whaling kept the townspeople going.
Victor Hugo was an early fan of Biarritz, describing it in 1843 as “a white village with red roofs and green shutters, set 
amongst grassy hills”. The old port remains much as it was in Hugo’s day. Why not go to our favourite beach at Port Vieux, where the cliff-edged bay is like a natural swimming pool and just …. watch the waves come in.
Biarritz is, in fact, so pretty that it has attracted a string of European royalty, movie stars and sports heroes ever since Napoleon and his wife, the Countess of Montijo, first discovered it in 1854. These days, visiting stars include Isabella Rossellini and Paco Rabanne as well as politicians from Jacques Chirac to Tony Blair ……. What are you waiting for?
