Golf de Chantaco
The course sits right underneath the imposing Pyrenees mountains, though it is nowhere near as difficult to traverse and is equally as beautiful. Great clubhouse, painted in tasteful Pink, with lots of the founding families Lacoste apparel for sale in the Pro shop. It is one of the most celebrated courses in the Basque region which is largely due to it’s charm and ambiance both nurtured by the owning family.
It is a course that demands precision more than length but at only 5833 meters off the back blocks,
even the most proficient golfers amongst you will find it a handful. It was designed by Harry Colt in 1928 and is made up of two distinct 9 holes. The course meanders through woodland for the first nine holes with water coming into play on the back nine. Golf de Chantaco is 16 kilometers to the South of Biarritz and very close to the chic St. Jean de Luz. The whole place exudes a very “British feel” in a classic sense …a very refined ambiance and a good test of golf.
Our opinion
“ A lovely course which will demand you keep your driver in your bag. Not easy when standing on some of the elevated tees. With two distinct nine holes it offers great variety and stunning views. The last two holes, which you have to cross a busy road to play, are rather disappointing compared to the previous sixteen. Great restaurant and apres golf ”
