Golf d’Arcangues
This course is just to the South of Biarritz laid out on many acres of Oak trees and meadows that wind around the Chateau d’Arcangues and it’s village. Standing on the terrace outside the great restaurant and clubhouse, looking out over the course, it is easy to have one of those moments that make you good to be alive. With panoramic views of the Pyrenees and the prospect of a delicious lunch, it’s sometimes difficult to concentrate on the golf. This course really delivers and is always a pleasure. Designed by Ronald Fream and opened in the early 1990’s it will certainly strain your calf muscles as their is some serious undulation on the course with many holes going uphill or downhill. The front nine is essentially tree lined and the back nine offers more generous and open fairways.
The course offers golfers of all levels plenty of variety and the views are just stunning. The Arcangues family, who still own the course and the rambling chateau which you pass whilst playing the 15th hole, have restored the 16th century building, that is now the clubhouse, in great style. Magnificent oak beams, typical “English” style bar and superb restaurant all combine to leave golfers feeling very satisfied at the end of a round on this lovely Basque course.
